Top 5 Tips Why White Distilled Vinegar Works Magic!

All vinegar contains acetic acid, which is the magical ingredient that helps to brighten, soften and improve your laundry due to its PH-balancing properties. There are several different kinds of vinegar to choose from, but distilled white vinegar is the way to go.

It is less acidic than other vinegar, so it’s gentle and is strong enough to dissolve detergent, odours or chemical residues. When buying your vinegar, get white distilled instead of cider vinegar as the former is free of tannins (natural plant dyes) that could stain your clothes. Simply pour ¼ to 1 cup into your fabric softener dispenser, add your detergent (recommend using one that’s as natural as possible), and get ready to unveil your cleanest, whitest, brightest and softest load of laundry ever.

Top 5 Tips Why White Distilled Vinegar Works Magic!

1. It keeps whites white, darks dark and colours are vibrant.
Put one load with ½ cup vinegar, and all your whites appear brand new again. With a load of darks, it filters off lint, pet hair, and soaps and detergent, which keeps dark pieces dark instead of dull. Colours will renew their vibrancy.

2. It breaks down mildew.
Have you ever accidentally left a wet towel sitting in a pile on your floor after you shower, only to come home after an entire day to it smelling like mouldy mildew? No one likes this musty scent. Pour ½ cup of white distilled vinegar in with your towel load and it will banish the mildew and the smell that comes with it. Your towels will be their fluffiest ever.

3. It softens clothes.
This helps to soften up clothing and sheets in general. Thin cotton pieces feel so soft after using just ½ a cup. Since vinegar is all-natural, I don’t have to use harsh fabric softeners on our clothes.

4. It cleans out your washing machine.
Just as dirt, stains and detergents can build up on your clothes, they can also diminish the efficiency of your washing machine. If your washing machine’s hoses are bogged down with soap scum and chemicals, the water it washes your clothes with won’t be as clean. Plus, fabric detergents and mineral deposits can build up too. Run an empty cycle of hot water with 2 cups white distilled vinegar to give your machine a good clean. It will dissolve all the soap scum and other build-ups. Once every three months should do the trick.

5. Removes odours
Spray on a shirt with less-than-appealing underarm odours. Let it sits for 10 minutes before running through the wash. The vinegar will begin to break down the smell and it will help remove the appearance of pit stains as well. In fact, this will get rid bonfire smoke, cigarettes, it will get rid of odours using white distilled vinegar.

What is Plus Size?

What is Plus Size?

The growing acceptance of fashion for all sizes is a boon to campaigners, but what shops and shoppers really mean by ‘plus size’ varies wildly.

A third of UK women would class size 18 and larger as plus size – but some UK retailers are still starting their ‘bigger’ ranges at size 14.

The figures reveal that female figures are still defying definition, with no ‘one size fits all’ rules for standard sizes.

It’s been revealed that one in four women – 27% – believe that a size 16 is where plus size starts, while and one in six (15%) feels plus size should start at a size 20.

Shoppers who are themselves between a dress size six and 12 were most likely to class size 16 as plus size, and the majority of women sized 18, 20 and 22 classed their own dress size as plus size.

Putting a number on plus size has always been a cause for discussion within the industry.

There is no agreed starting size for plus size high street collections – retailers who do offer a plus size collection have a starting size range from anything from a 14 up to a size 20.

New research from online clothing retailer Daxon shows attitudes are changing for the better, with 70% of respondents agreeing that plus size is more accepted now than 10 years ago.

The online store, whose clothes range from size eight to 32, surveyed women across the UK to find out how attitudes to plus size fashion have changed over the years.

Although over half (57%) of ladies surveyed felt that high street retailers cater for plus size women, this was not the case for ladies over the size of 20 themselves.

A massive 64% of size 20 respondents felt that the high street didn’t offer an adequate range of plus size fashion, with this number rising to 67% for ladies who are sized 22.

Karen Hazeldine, Managing Director at Daxon, said: “We are thrilled to see that so many ladies across the UK have seen a more positive attitude to plus size fashion, compared to 10 years ago.

We believe that the diversity of shapes and sizes in the UK should be celebrated, which is why we offer our range of clothing from a size 8 up to size 32.

Fashion should be about making people feel as confident as they can, so we believe that the focus should be on creating clothes that make people happy in their own skin, rather than on numbers on a label.”
